Ireland - Of Giants & Bridges!

Photobucket

Another day goes by in Ireland and I was able to head to The Giants Causeway & Carrick-a-rede- rope bridge at Northern Ireland.

We were at Belfast (where titanic was built) and decided to head to The Giants Causeway as it seemed pretty awesome. The Giants Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns which stretches over the beach & sea. It was formed due to a prehistoric volcano eruption, which left most columns in hexagonal shapes! Amazing huh?

Now you'll be thinking why its called the Giant's causeway, well according to legend, it is the bridge   connecting Ireland & Scotland, where there was an Irish Giant, named Fionn & a Scotland Giant, named Benandonner.

In the story, Fionn was challenged by Benandonner. Fionn was smaller in size but was able to trick  Benandonner, which made Benandonner flee back to Scotland, while demolishing the bridge. So there you have it, a short history lesson on the Giants Causeway!

lets head to some of the pictures at the Causeway:

After the causeway, we headed off to the Carrick-A-Rede Ropebridge which was not far off it. The bridge was built in the olden days, to catch migrating Salmon from the ocean. *as for now, its just a tourist spot, since the salmon have depleted*

The bridge is 20 metres long, and it hangs 30 metres above the sea level! winds were crazy as it blew the bridge from side to side

On the way there, we had a lovely sight, which was a rainbow:
